To provide a Christian environment for the social and faith development of the youth in the church and community. The Responsibilities of the Youth/Young Families Task Group:
- Provide social opportunities in a Christian environment for our youth through youth club and other activities
- Encourage participation in wider activities of the Uniting Church (particularly the youth ministry).
- Recognise leadership potential in the youth and provide opportunities to develop the skill through training and leadership roles in the church.
- Identify, encourage and provide opportunities to attend and participate in appropriate youth worship.
Sunday School
Faith Education for our young people includes a Sunday School for children ages 2-1/2 to 14 years led by a creative and devoted teaching team. Our Sunday School runs during the Sunday Worship service in school term times. The children join in our worship for the first 15 minutes before moving to their own Sunday School activities.
Visiting children are always welcome in our Sunday School.
Youth Leader
Celia Fairley was appointed Youth Leader on the 1st November 2009.
Celia says -
"As youth leader I aim to provide a fun, safe environment for people aged 13 and over, including a range of social activities and pastoral times designed to nurture faith journeys.
"For many young people, this point in their life is one where a lot of questions arise, especially with relation to identity and the search for meaning. I feel this makes it all the more important to provide a safe place in which to encounter God. The inclusion of faith in youth development can be pivotal in developing a strong Christian basis for the rest of their lives.0408 310 015 celia.fairley@hotmail.com "Involvement in the youth activities of the wider church at Presbytery, Synod and National level has been integral to my own faith journey and I therefore aim to provide such opportunities for youth here at Warrandyte. Throughout the year, we engage with youth groups from other churches in the local area and throughout the Synod. Every two years, the Uniting Church hosts the National Christian Youth Convention and we aim to have groups attend each time. The next convention is on the Gold Coast from 30th December 2010.
"Social activities include roller skating, ice skating, movie nights, trivia nights, BBQs, beach days – just about anything we can think of!
"Pastoral visitation and the encouragement of concern for matters of social justice are also planned."
